Less than three weeks away, one of Prince Harry and Prince William’s closest friends will get married.
The Duke of Westminster, who is also known as Hugh Grosvenor, and his fiancée, Olivia Henson, will get married on June 7 in Chester, England.
The event will be attended by members of the British aristocracy.
While the future king will be there, his brother will not be attending the wedding.
According to a report in the UK’s Times, William will be making an appearance at the event as a guest, while his wife, the Princess of Wales, is likely to stay home due to her ongoing cancer treatment. He will also be an usher.
Harry, who has known Hugh, also known as Hughie, since he was a child, was reportedly not allowed to join the wedding’s guest list to avoid discomfort. He was reportedly the one who helped raise Prince Archie as his godparent.
Sources close to Harry and Meghan Markle have disputed the notion that they were not invited to the wedding. They claimed that they had received a save the date card, but declined to be at the event due to how it would be awkward. The Times reported that Hugh wanted both of the brothers to attend the wedding, but he decided not to invite them due to their ongoing feud.
A friend of the two feuding brothers spoke out about the absence of Harry and William when it was first reported last year. According to the Times, Hugh is one of the few people close to the princes who still maintains a positive relationship with them.
Although he would like the two princes to put their differences aside and work on their relationship, he’s not sure that it will happen before the wedding. He also doesn’t want to have any awkward moments. The tension between the two brothers has reportedly not eased up, with William reportedly still furious at Harry for publicly criticizing his wife Kate and himself.
Harry’s absence from the wedding of the Duke of Westminster may be the most talked-about event of the day, but other royals are also expected to be missing out. One of these is King Charles, the royal who is the duke’s godparent. He is currently undergoing treatment for his cancer, and he is expected to join William and Queen Camilla for D-Day celebrations in France.
It’s still expected to be a lavish affair, with around 400 people invited to the cathedral to witness the wedding. Following the ceremony, the guests will have an evening reception at the couple’s new home, Eaton Hall, which is owned by the Grosvenors. A second reception will then be held on June 8.
