Zaire Bwoga, 22, died while he was in the arms of his father after choking on a grape that was given to him by another child.
The incident happened at Burns Beach in Perth, where the family was vacationing.
The little boy, who was also known as ZaZa, was playing with another child when he suddenly choked.
Brian, the boy’s father, said that the toddler’s friend had been sharing grapes with him.
Following the incident, Brian called for the mandatory installation of warning labels on loose grapes in stores. He said he felt like he didn’t want to be alive.
According to Brian, the incident happened in just five minutes.
He said that his son was a happy and playful child, but he lost his life due to a tragic accident.
He said that life can quickly take away from a person.
After seeing that something was not right, Brian quickly grabbed the grape and tried to clear it from his son’s throat.
However, little ZaZa was struggling to breathe and was quickly turning blue. He then passed away in his father’s arms.
During the incident, Brian tried to perform CPR, but he said that nothing seemed to be happening.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and police, ZaZa died. Following the tragic incident, Brian started to search for answers.
He was shocked to see that there were 134 cases of children under four years old who had choked on food in Australia in 2021.
