Tyler King, a former speedway racing champion, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he killed his sister’s boyfriend, Jesse Tattersall, following a boast about his actions.
In a statement, Justice Natalie Adams of the Newcastle Supreme Court said she could not determine if King intended to kill Tattersall, but she noted that he wanted to inflict harm on the former boyfriend in order to prevent him from hurting his sister again.
After repeatedly stabbing Tattersall, King told his sister that no one will hit them again. He then killed him again at Hamlyn Terrace in September 2022.
According to Justice Adams, King admitted that he had to do something to stop Tattersall from hurting his sister. He said that, from his perspective, Tenille was being attacked by her former boyfriend.
According to the judge, Tenille had asked King to come and protect her from the deceased.
After breaking into her home through a security door, King started attacking her. He received a sentence of six years and nine months in jail.
She was helpless to defend herself during the attack. King confronted Tattersall at around 8.10 pm, and he told him that he wouldn’t hit his sister again. Tattersall then hit King’s head through a wall before telling him that he should look at what he had done to her.
King, who was on bail for an earlier offense, took out a knife during the fight and stabbed Tattersall multiple times. While Tenille tried to intervene, Tattersall collapsed and died outside the house. He had earlier threatened to kill Tenille.
According to Justice Adams, it was clear that Tattersall intended to attack Tenille. She noted that King acted out of fear and panic during the incident. Tattersall had no idea that he was being followed by King when he carried out the attack.
Domestic violence is a common issue that perpetrators often carry out at home without witnesses. The judge explained that King was a talented speedway racer who left his family to pursue a career in the sport in the UK when he was 15. Unfortunately, he failed to achieve his goals.
King returned to Australia and failed to attend school. After he killed Tattersall, his girlfriend, Maddison York called an Uber to ask for a ride to Gorokan, where they were arrested. York, who was also charged as an accessory after the fact, was released on Thursday following a 19-month incarceration.
