A man from Sydney will appear in court this afternoon after he was charged with stabbing his brother and mother in what police believe was a planned attack.
Emergency services were called to a home in Marrickville at around 5.40 pm on Wednesday.
A man was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds.
He was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he is currently in a serious condition
. A woman, who was also 55 years old, was also taken to the same facility for treatment of a stab wound to her throat.
According to police, she is expected to be released shortly.
A man, who was 22 years old at the time, was apprehended at the scene and later charged with two counts of wounding with intent to murder.
Detective Ben Kennis said the suspect was the brother of one of the victims and the son of another.
The suspect’s father was in the house during the incident.
Although he was not in the room during the attack, he managed to escape the residence and alerted an emergency response.
Detective Kennis noted that it’s believed that the father might have been targeted as well.
According to Detective Kennis, it’s believed that the attack was carried out without any provocation or warning.
He also noted that the family was not known to the police. The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
