A young boy died after he was hit by a car at Central Queensland’s Rockhampton Showgrounds on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were then called to the scene.

The child, who was three years old, died shortly after paramedics arrived.

A woman, believed to be in her 40s, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Police said the agency’s Forensic Crash Unit was handling the investigation.

The incident occurred just a week before the Rocky Show, which will be held on June 12.
