A Channel 7 star reportedly refused to stay in for another round after he was charged over $40 for a couple of drinks.
According to Andrew Costello, a media personality from South Australia, he was at an unnamed establishment when he was charged the high amount.
He posted a picture of his drinks on Instagram, stating that he felt that bars were competing with the rising prices of food and taxes.
The South Australian celebrity, who is known as Cosi, joked that he told his wife to drink slowly because there would be no second round.
His fans believed that he was at an airport, where people are used to high prices.
However, the high cost of his drinks shocked many of his followers. Some of them suggested that he should stay home and enjoy a good barbecue.
One critic stated that Australia had become a “rip-off” nation.
Others called the price unreasonable, while a third joked that they were charged for a rose.
Unfortunately, Cosi’s observation is quickly becoming a common occurrence for people who drink alcohol, wine, and beer at home.
On February 5, the price of a pint of beer was estimated to have gone up by around 90 cents due to an increase in alcohol tax.
The tax on beer and spirits is based on the alcohol content of the drink.
According to official figures, the inflation rate increased by 4.1 percent during the last three months of 2018.
The excise tax rate is adjusted every two years based on the changes in the consumer price index.
Since the last election in 2022, the average increase in the tax has been around 15 percent.
