Two women died after they were swept off rocks in Sydney’s south.
A third person was taken to hospital after they were pulled into the water at Kurnell.
Emergency services were called to the area after three women were spotted in the water at around 4:30 pm on Monday.
One of the women managed to get out of the water before members of the public helped her.
Upon arrival, a helicopter doctor and paramedics attempted to revive the two unconscious women, but they succumbed to their injuries.
The victims of the tragic incident were identified as Marwa Hashim, 35, and Nirsha Haris, 38.
The community of Sydney Malayalees held a tribute ceremony for the two women on Tuesday afternoon.
NSW Police noted that they were conducting an investigation and did not find any suspicious circumstances.
A report on the incident will be submitted to the coroner. It occurred just two weeks after another drowning incident at Kurnell.
On May 28, two fishermen were swept off Cape Solander Drive while they were fishing.
It is a high-risk area where people are required to wear life jackets.
