A firefighter from NSW suffered facial burns while putting out a car fire in Sydney’s inner west on Thursday.
He was responding to a call about a vehicle fire in Ross St., in the early hours of the morning.
When he opened the vehicle’s door, a flashover occurred.
The fire completely destroyed the interior of the car.
According to Adam Dewberry, a superintendent for FRNSW, the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery caught on fire due to a smouldering issue.
He noted that one of the firefighters suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Two fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the scene.
They were tasked with monitoring the battery’s temperature to prevent it from overheating and triggering a runaway.
The firefighter was then treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation and burns.
