Over a month’s worth of rain fell in just 24 hours in parts of Central Queensland. Meanwhile, more cold and wet weather is on its way.
According to Weatherzone, a trough of low pressure is currently over Queensland, which is bringing in moisture-rich air.
It has dumped up to 60 millimeters of rain on parts of Townsville and Mackay.
According to a weather station at the airport in Mackay, the city received 59.8 millimeters of rain over the course of 24 hours.
This is the highest amount of rainfall that the city has experienced in a single day in 21 years.
The trough is expected to continue to affect central Queensland over the next couple of days, with widespread rain and cloud expected to occur in the region.
Weatherzone noted that the rain may ease by Friday.
But showers may still occur in some parts of the state.
Another weather system that could affect southern Queensland may develop early next week.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, thunderstorms may develop in inland, northern, and southern Queensland on Friday.
Although they’re not expected to be powerful, they could produce small hail.
