Bob Ballard, a Eurosport commentator, was removed from the booth during the 2024 Paris Olympics after he made a sexist remark about Australia’s gold medal-winning 4×100-meter freestyle relay team.
During the telecast, Ballard said that the women were just finishing up their make-up.
He tried to make a joke out of it, but his comments were immediately criticized by his co-commentator, Lizzie Simmonds.
Eurosport immediately removed him from the booth.
A statement released by Eurosport stated that Ballard had been removed from the coverage due to his inappropriate comments.
While he was not addressing the issue, he wished Laura Winter well ahead of the night session.
Regarded as one of the most experienced sports commentators in the UK, Ballard has covered various events since the 1980s, including the Olympics.
He has also presented programs for the BBC and taught at universities.
