Korbin Reid, a 13-year-old boy from Lithgow, was killed while riding his scooter on the Great Western Highway at Bowenfels on Friday.

He was with his father and brother when the tragic incident occurred.

According to his older brother Zack, he could not believe his eyes when he saw his sibling lying on the road.

He then held his head up against his leg as he tried to call his brother’s name. After a couple of seconds, he started to move his eyes.

Korbin and his friends had just crossed the highway from a traffic light.

Zack said that as they were heading toward the median island, they came across a car that had come out of nowhere.

The boy was then taken to Lithgow hospital before he was sent to Westmead.

The 45-year-old male driver was taken for a mandatory drug test following the incident.

The NSW Police did not charge him. According to Zack, Korbin is the second child that his father has lost, and the incident has left him with a closed-off feeling.

Logan, who was only a couple of months old when he died, was also killed by SIDS.

Korbin’s family is well-known in the community of Lithgow. His mother is a St. Vincent de Paul volunteer and an SES volunteer.

Zack noted that the community rallied around the family.

Korbin was a bright-natured individual who enjoyed making everyone laugh.

His family is struggling with the loss of their son, and a fund has been established online to help them with their expenses.
