Lin Yu-ting hit out at the boxing association after it targeted her during the gender row. The fighter claimed that the organization deliberately attacked her.
She also revealed that she often gets asked about her appearance and whether she went to a women’s bathroom.
Lin is set to fight for a gold medal at the Olympics on Saturday. Unfortunately, her run has been marred by abusive online comments.
Last year, the Taiwanese fighter was disqualified from the world championships along with Imane Khelif after the IBA claimed that they failed gender verification tests.
The organization, which is backed by Russia, said that the pair had abnormal XY chromosomes and testosterone levels.
Lin, who has been a registered female boxer, was not allowed to participate in the press conference because the IBA did not have the necessary documents to verify her gender. Despite the controversy, she still maintains her innocence and continues to fight for her country.
Lin and her team have proven that the IBA’s test was not conducted according to the organization’s standards.
She was baffled by the fuss over the issue and wondered if the boxing association was trying to take advantage of her situation.
According to Lin, her physical appearance draws a lot of attention, and she often gets asked whether or not she’s a woman. She would then tell them that she is a woman.
She attributes her physical appearance to her hairstyle and height. She said she has always been who she is.
If she had worn her hair long, it would have taken a lot of time for her to fix it. Lin is scheduled to fight in the 57kg category on Saturday at the Roland Garros.
Her opponent is Julia Szeremeta from Poland.
