Australian dancer Raygun Gunn got wiped out by Kyle Sandilands after details about her academic background and education were revealed following her performance at the Olympics in Paris.
Raygun, who didn’t perform well during her three routines, became a meme due to her odd moves, which have been compared to those of Chris Lilley’s character Mr. G in “Summer Heights High.”
On his KIIS radio show, Kyle said he empathized with Raygun.
Jackie O, his co-host, asked whether he should feel sorry for Raygun since she had become a huge figure following her performance in Paris.
However, Kyle noted that it was not the type of success that one could be proud of, and he referred to her as an embarrassment.
Kyle then revealed to his listeners that Raygun was a lecturer at a university. She had a PhD in dance.
He also said that it was not hard to get a PhD in dance. Raygun tried to do something unique by performing strange moves.
Raygun, who is 36 years old, is a lecturer in the Department of Communication and Media at the university of Macquarie.
She holds a PhD in modern music and a bachelor’s degree in cultural studies. She specializes in hip-hop, street dance, and youth culture.
Raygun’s thesis was entitled “Deterritorializing Gender In Sydney’s Break Dancing Scene: A B-girl’s Experiencing B-boying”.
It looked into how cultural practices within breakdancing helped challenge gender norms.
Dr. Gunn’s thesis explored the experiences of herself as a female participant in the male-dominated scene of breakdancing in Sydney.
She questioned why there were only a few female crew members and spectators in the creative space.
During his radio show, Kyle revealed to his listeners that he saw a B-boy defending Raygun on The Project.
He said that the man claimed to have seen Raygun win and then refused to comment on her performance. It was like a “B-boy protection zone”.
Brooklyn Ross of KIIS asked Kyle what he thought about Raygun’s performance, and he stated that he thought that she represented Australia well.
He noted that he thought that he could have represented the country better.
