Bronx break dancing pioneer Richard Colon demanded an investigation into the decision to allow Raygun, an Australian dancer, to compete at the Olympics in Paris.
He said that officials should have vetted her more thoroughly.
According to Colon, who is 58 years old, the governing body of dance should have conducted a more thorough investigation into why Raygun was allowed to participate in the event.
Online users criticized her for her moves, and she was even spoofed by Rachel Dratch on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night talk show.
Raygun’s controversial style, which some say is a joke, has been compared to breaking from a culture that has endured hardships.
According to Colon, people shouldn’t be allowed to just go in and “disrupt” a whole community’s culture.
He claims that the Olympics’ potential mishandling of Raygun’s participation is the result of a faulty system that did not establish a standard for the new sport.
He compared Raygun’s style to driving a car without being an expert.
According to Colon, she was selected over other Australian break dancers due to their lack of resources.
He said that it would have been nice if Raygun had bowed out, as she was taking advantage of someone else’s opportunity.
However, he noted that some of the online criticism she received was unfair, such as people who criticized her green and gold tracksuit.
He said that Raygun didn’t have the necessary skills to compete.
On Thursday, she opened up about her performance online, stating that she took it seriously and worked hard to prepare.
