A man from Mansfield Park died after he was hit by a train while he was allegedly fleeing from the scene of a robbery near Adelaide’s CBD.
He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, but he died a short time later.
The incident occurred at around 3 pm on Thursday at the Draper railway station in Largs North.
According to witnesses, the man, who was reportedly intoxicated, asked people for money to purchase sugar before stealing from a nearby deli.
He then punched a staff member after he was accused of stealing from the store.
He then ran away into the path of a train, leaving those around him terrified.
The incident led to the closure of Strathfield Terrace, which was between Military Road and Victoria Road.
The road was reopened as police continued their investigation.
The incident delayed the services of the Outer Harbor line, though they have since resumed.
A report regarding the incident will be submitted to the coroner.
