Millions of Aussies are being warned about the potential for power outages as thunderstorms develop over the state of South Australia, while more storms are expected to hit the state of NSW and Victoria later in the afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology has urged residents in the states of NSW, Victoria, and the ACT to be on the lookout for severe storms and possible power outages.

Meteorologist Miriam Bradbury noted that these storms could affect major population centers such as Melbourne and Adelaide.

According to Bradbury, these storms are expected to affect areas such as Melbourne and Adelaide on Sunday.

She noted that the powerful winds could cause trees and branches to fall on roads, and this could also lead to other issues like property damage and dangerous driving conditions.

The thunderstorm warnings that have been issued may also indicate the possibility of heavy rainfall and large hail.

Although these are not as powerful as the winds, they can still be expected to affect regions such as Melbourne and the central highlands of Victoria.

The southern Riverina region in NSW is at risk of experiencing severe storms.

As for Canberra, she noted that there is a chance that some strong thunderstorms could develop later in the evening.
