Jan Deane, a former ABC newsreader, was remembered as an incredibly talented journalist following her death.
She had worked in various areas of Victoria for over 20 years.
Before she moved to Melbourne, Shepparton, and Ballarat, she was a radio host for 3SR.
Late Wednesday night, Premier of Victoria Jacinta Allan announced the tragic news on her social media platform.
She noted that many people in the region would immediately recognize the voice of the journalist who died.
Jan was a very talented journalist who first met me when I was reading the news in Shepparton.
Deane had worked for the ABC for over two decades, and she was able to leave the organization’s Melbourne newsroom to cover the stories of her hometown of Shepparton.
In her tribute, Ms. Allan noted that she was passionate about the issues that affected regional Victorians.
My heart goes out to Jan’s family, friends, and colleagues. She was a passionate journalist who dedicated her career to covering the issues that affected rural communities.
9NEWS’ executive producer said that she was a wonderful person and a dedicated journalist.
Warwick Long, who worked with Deane at the ABC in Shepparton, said that he was sad to hear about her death.
He noted that she was a talented journalist who had a beautiful voice.
Long also referred to her as a great person who had a great sense of humor.
