After major success of Turkish Airlines’ Melbourne to Istanbul service, the company is now planning on adding Sydney to its list of cities served by the route.
Beginning in December, Australian passengers will be able to take advantage of the new direct flights between Sydney and Istanbul, via Malaysia.
This is a key route that has never been available to passengers within the country.
The new service will initially operate non-stop, beginning in late 2026. It will allow passengers from Sydney’s east coast to connect with Turkey’s capital, Istanbul.
According to Sydney Airport, the new route will be a groundbreaking innovation that will allow people to travel between Europe and Australia.
Scott Charlton, the CEO of Sydney Airport, said that the new direct flights will provide passengers with an easier and more convenient way to travel to Europe.
The announcement is also significant for the NSW and Sydney economies, as it demonstrates the importance of international aviation.
While some may view the new route as the gateway to Turkey, others will be able use it to travel to other cities across the globe on Turkish Airlines’ one-stop itinerary.
The new route follows Turkish Airlines’ debut in Australia earlier this year, when it began operating the Istanbul to Melbourne service.
Natalie Hutchins, the Minister for Industry and Jobs in Victoria, noted that the new service was a significant boost to the state’s economy.
Minister Hutchins noted that the addition of Turkish Airlines to the country’s aviation industry will provide more competition and choice for both local and international passengers.
According to Dr. Ahmet Bolat, the company’s expansion into Australia has been carefully planned.
As Turkey’s 130th country to join its network, Mr. Bolat noted that Australia is an ideal addition to the company’s growing network due to its warm-hearted people and breathtaking landscapes.
Turkish Airlines’ new flights from Sydney to Istanbul start at $1489.
