In a statement, the father of Russell and Ben said that he was struggling to come to terms with the loss of his sons.
On Tuesday, Nick Smith was at the family’s home in the Blue Mountains, where he found the bodies of Ben and his brother.
The statement released by NSW Police described the tragic loss of the two boys.
The father, who spoke lovingly of his sons, said that the pair were outgoing and happy, and that they were loved by their friends and family.
Like other kids their age, the boys were known for their love of sports and music.
Their mother, Trish Smith, is accused of killing the two boys.
However, she is yet to be charged due to the nature of the injuries that they sustained.
Trish was apprehended by the police and is currently in custody.
Mr Smith, in a statement, said that he was still trying to come to terms with how the incident occurred.
He also thanked the community for its support, and asked that the media give the family privacy to grieve.
According to the police, they had only previously interacted with the mother for minor matters.
She has previously appeared on a podcast and discussed her mental health.
She also wrote about her experiences in urban agriculture.
She expressed her gratitude for having access to help and education and noted that she had recently turned their home into a farm.
