Daniel Andrews, the former Premier of Australia, have issued a joint statement to address a report that questioned their version of an accident that happened in 2013.
The report was prepared by Dr. Raymond Shuey, a former police officer.
He was supposed to be an expert witness for Ryan Meuleman when he was injured by the couple’s car.
Ryan Meuleman has sued his former lawyers for failing to properly handle his compensation claim following the accident.
The investigations conducted by the police and the state’s integrity watchdog cleared the Andrewses of any wrongdoing.
The couple also criticized the Herald Sun for publishing the report, which they referred to as “conspiracy theories.”
Catherine was driving a government-funded 4WD when she hit Meuleman, who was a 15-year-old cyclist. At that time, Andrews was the leader of the opposition.
According to Shuey’s report, the authorities tried to conceal the truth about the accident to avoid implicating the politician.
In response, the Andrewses stated that the report was prepared by lawyers for their clients, who were seeking money from the courts.
They noted that they did not participate in the legal action, and the matter has already been thoroughly investigated.
Meuleman received a compensation payment of $80,000 from the transport accident commission in 2022.
Now, he’s suing his former law office, Slater & Gordon, for not conducting a proper investigation regarding the accident. He claims that the firm failed to fight for a bigger payout.
According to the former officer, the investigation was conducted poorly.
The police failed to carry out proper breath-testing procedures during the incident.
In 2017, the Independent Broad-based Administrative Commission cleared the police of any wrongdoing.
