On Sunday, Earth will get another moon, which is called 2024 PT5.
It’s a tiny asteroid that’s about as big as a bus.
For two months, this new moon will pass by Earth as it goes through an asteroid belt.
A group of scientists who are experts in the field of mini-moon events have identified the upcoming event.
They spotted the mysterious characteristics of 2024 PT5 while monitoring other potential objects of interest.
According to Carlos de la Fuente Marcos, a research scientist at the University of Madrid, the object that will be visiting Earth is part of the asteroid belt known as the Arjuna.
It follows a similar path to the planet and passes by the sun at a distance of around 93 million miles.
The scientist noted that the objects in the area are part of the asteroid belt that’s located near Earth. Some of them can reach Earth at a distance of around 2.8 million miles.
Due to certain factors, the object’s geocentric energy might deteriorate, causing it to become a moon of Earth temporarily.
It will not be following a full orbit around the planet. Instead, it might act like a window shopper as it passes Earth.
