John David Ashton, who played opposite Eddie Murphy in the Beverly Hills Cop movies, died on Thursday at 76.
According to TMZ, he passed away due to cancer in Colorado.
During his career, which lasted for over 50 years, he appeared in over 200 films and on stage.
His latest role was Chief John Taggart, who was the opposite of Murphy’s Axel Foley in the Netflix original movie, which premiered this year.
Judge Reinhold, who worked with the two actors in the film, played the role of Billy Rosewood.
Other notable performances by Ashton included his role in the 1987 comedy-drama Some Kind ofWonderful, as well as the 1988 movie Midnight Run, in which he played opposite Robert De Niro.
After dropping out of acting, he transitioned to becoming a sports fan, which led to him becoming a co-host of the ESPN radio show The Ashton and Davis Show.
His rep told the site that he left behind a legacy of love and dedication. He will be remembered by his family, including his wife, Katherine, and his children, Brian, and Elle.
