A week after he was assaulted in Gold Coast, a young man died due to his injuries.
His death has been confirmed by the police.
He was attacked at around 2 am on September 22 on The Esplanade at Gold Coast. His father said his son died on Saturday.
According to his father, the young man was the victim of a coward punch.
He was taken to a hospital and was in intensive care until he was told that he had no chance of recovering. The family was able to spend time with him before he died.
In a Facebook post, the grieving father said that his son’s friends and relatives were able to say goodbye to him.
The Gold Coast police have opened a homicide investigation. Scott Knowles, the acting superintendent of the department, said that they are looking into various lines of inquiry regarding the incident.
He said that the victim was out with friends when he was assaulted.
Knowles noted that people with information about the incident should come forward. The police also want to speak to anyone who captured the incident on dashcam footage.
He said that the killers could benefit from coming forward now to avoid getting identified and tracked down.
According to Knowles, he was not aware of any issues between the victim and the people who assaulted him prior to the incident.
He also noted that there was no evidence suggesting that robbery was a motive for the attack. The police are looking for a group of people who were seen around the victim before the incident.
