Due to the rough conditions that are expected to affect the surfing regions of Queensland and NSW on Friday, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning to surfers to stay out of the water.
Meteorologist Christie Johnson said that a cold front and a low pressure system could bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of NSW and southern Queensland.
Surf warnings have been issued for the Coffs, Byron, and Macquarie coasts in NSW, as well as the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
In a statement, the Surf Life Saving Queensland organization urged people to avoid going into the ocean and warned rock fishers to stay away from exposed coastal areas.
Those planning on crossing ocean bars or shallow water should delay their trip. Those already on the water should have life jackets and carry the necessary equipment.
They should also keep in touch with their local radio station and develop their safety plan.
The NSW Police Marine Area Command has also urged boaters to keep in touch with the organization’s radio base and develop their own safety plan.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, most of Australia is expected to experience a wet spring and early summer.
BOM’s senior climatologist said that the northern part of the country could get a wet start to the season.
She noted that due to the increased likelihood of above-average rainfall, there’s a high likelihood of flooding in the regions around Tasmania and the mainland.
Daytime temperatures are expected to be higher across most of the country. She also noted that there’s a higher likelihood of bushfires in certain areas, such as the Northern Territory, Queensland, and South Australia.
Since reliable records began, at least one tropical cyclone has made landfall every season in Australia.
Regardless of the weather conditions, residents in the country’s northern regions should be getting ready for the upcoming season.

This comes as the nation prepares to be lashed by storms and rain this week. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, up to 95 millimeters of rain has already fallen in some parts of NSW.
