Despite being well-received in Sydney, the debut of Jackie and Kyle O in Melbourne has not gone well.
According to the latest GfK ratings, KIIS 101.1 has dropped 0.9 of a point to take a 5.2 percent share of the market.
That is well below the market leader, 3AW, which has a commanding 22.5 percent.
In April, the Australian Radio Network launched the Kyle and Jackie O show in Melbourne.
The move was reportedly based on the company’s desire to reduce costs and encourage more streaming numbers in the market.
However, investors soon pushed back against the decision, and in August, it was revealed that the network had planned to spend millions of dollars on the show’s launch.
The former breakfast hosts of KIIS Melbourne, Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, have managed to retain their place on the dial after being poached by rival station Nova.
They currently have a 9.6 percent share of the market. On the other hand, the Kyle and Jackie O show has been widely criticized in the city for their “toilet humour.”
The poor ratings will be a blow to the program’s investors and the ARN. The network is also planning on expanding the program’s reach beyond Melbourne.
In the past, Duncan Campbell, the company’s managing director, said that it would take time for the show to establish itself in the city.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show is regarded as the most successful radio program in Australia.
It has dominated the Sydney market and has been featured in 46 consecutive surveys at the top spot on the radio station ratings.
