According to the sport’s governing body, two competitors died during a triathlon event in Spain on Thursday.
One of them was from Great Britain and the other from Mexico.
Both individuals were participating in the first day of the competition in the sprint category.
The World Triathlon organization released a statement regarding the deaths of the two competitors. They were from Mexico and Great Britain.
The organization offered its condolences to the families of the deceased individuals.
The organization, along with the Spanish federation and the local organizing committee (LOC), are in touch with the athletes’ families and other national federations to offer support during this difficult time.
The Mexican Tri Federation identified the competitor who died as 79-year old Roger Mas Colomber of Mexico.
In a statement, the organization revealed that the 79-year-old competitor died during the World Championship event in Torremolinos, Spain, on October 17.
It referred to him as a Mexican competitor and shared the grief of his friends and family. British Tri also confirmed the death of one of its Age-group team members. The organization did not identify the individual.
