Despite suffering multiple injuries throughout his career, Nick Kyrgios was not going to let them prevent him from winning a grand slam.
The Australian was able to play only one match in the past two years due to his injuries.
He underwent multiple operations on his wrist and knee, and was told that he would most likely have to retire from tennis.
In an interview with 9News Melbourne, Kyrgios said that he felt his best in two years due to his recent recovery.
He noted that he started feeling issues in his wrist during the US Open and Wimbledon finals in 2017. He underwent a wrist reconstruction procedure and is now feeling great.
He said that it was a miracle that he was able to get back to this level.
Coming back to play in front of his home crowd is going to be very sick for him. In an interview, Kyrgios opened up about his struggles to find motivation to continue playing tennis.
He noted that his time away from the court did not help him, and he had doubts about his future in the sport. However, the thought of retiring kept him motivated.
According to him, the physical and mental aspects of his injury were brutal. He vowed to stay focused on his recovery and not let it become a burden that he would carry for the rest of his life.
To try and revive his career, he hit balls that were used by children for training. He also participated in the Sydney Challenger event, where he met some of the world’s best players.
He said that he didn’t feel that his wrist was improving.
To improve it, he started hitting balls that kids used to play with. Although his desire to return was motivated by his desire to retire, he noted that all of his achievements from now on would be a bonus.
He noted that he has already won, and all of his achievements from now on would be a bonus.
He is expected to play at the Australian Open in 2025.
