Rita Carrey, Jim Carrey’s sister, died on November 14, 2024.
Her husband, Alex, announced her death on her Facebook page.
He wrote that she peacefully passed away on November 14.
He and Rita were together for 16 years. They got married in July 2023 in an outdoor wedding. According to Alex, they traveled the world and became friends with various individuals.
He also referred to his wife as his best friend.
Rita was known for her love of people and her desire to help others. She was one of Carrey’s three older sisters. During Christmas season, she would raise funds for a local charity.
All three of them were from Canada. In her memory, a candle light vigil will be held on December 7 at St. Catharines’ Heathcote Terrace. A public Christmas event will also be held in support of Gillian.
To honor Rita, donations can be made to her place of residence.
The event will also feature a variety of toys and clothes for children. In his post, Alex stated that it has been a crazy and wonderful journey with Rita.
He also wrote that he will never forget her. Rita was an amazing and beautiful woman who filled everyone’s heart with joy.
In his post, Carrey stated that he will never forget his wife. He also thanked his best friend for everything he had done for him. However, Jim Carrey has not issued a statement regarding his sister’s death. The Independent reached out to the actor’s representatives for a comment.
In 2022, Carrey revealed that he would retire from acting following the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. He played the role of Dr. Robotnik.
During a promotional appearance for his new movie, Carrey stated that he would retire after the film was over.
According to the actor, it depends on what the angels have in store for him next. He noted that he might continue working if the script is good enough for people to see. Explaining his decision to retire, Carrey stated that he enjoys his quiet life and believes that he has already reached his ideal age. He also said that he would like to take a break from acting.
After his retirement, Carrey came out and appeared in Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The movie will be released on December 20, 2024.
