Australian professional tennis player Nick Kyrgios is set to make a return to the court at the upcoming Brisbane International.
He has not played since June 23, 2023, when he lost in the first round of the Stuttgart Open.
Although he is currently not ranked in the world’s top 20, Kyrgios is expected to join a prominent group of players when the ATP 250 tournament takes place in December.
He won the event in 2018 with a victory over Ryan Harrison.
In a statement, Kyrgios said that he is looking forward to returning to the tournament he won in 2018, which he referred to as one of his favorite events.
He noted that he is currently in a good condition and is eager to get back on the court. He said that he had set a goal to be back playing during the Australian summer.
For now, Kyrgios is focused on getting back on court and playing in front of the Australian fans. He has a protected ranking that he can use to continue playing professional tennis.
However, he was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open in 2023 due to a knee injury.
After suffering a foot injury during the French Open, which prevented him from competing, Kyrgios underwent surgery.
He was then ruled out for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury. After his injury, he became a television commentator for various networks. During his time away from the court, he worked for ESPN, Eurosport, and the BBC.
According to Cam Pearson, the tournament director of the Brisbane International, the addition of Kyrgios to the event will provide a boost to the tournament’s success.
He noted that the talented player will join other prominent players such as Jordan Thompson and Alexei Popyrin.
He noted that he is excited to see how the tournament will be affected by the return of Nick. He said he is looking forward to seeing him perform at his best and entertain the spectators.
Joining him will be other prominent players such as Grigor Dimitrov, Gael Monfils, and Holger Rune.
The upcoming WTA 500 tournament will be headed by Aryna Sabalenca, who currently holds the No. 1 ranking.
Other prominent players who will be participating are Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula.
