A two-year-old child was in a critical condition after he was pulled from the pool of a public facility in Sydney’s Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
He was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said that the force was at the scene and was conducting an investigation.
The child was reportedly spotted by the public before lifeguards started CPR.
A spokesperson for the Whitlam Leisure Centre said that bystanders helped the child before paramedics arrived.
The facility was evacuated and later revealed on social media that it was closed.
The facility warned parents about the dangers of unsupervised water activities in a message posted on its website.
It noted that most drownings of young children happen in bathtubs and swimming pools.
While the facility has lifeguards who are trained for extreme situations, it’s still important that parents keep an eye on their kids at all times.
