With temperatures set to soar and thunderstorms brewing, it’s time to stay cool and stay informed.
Brisbane’s Sweltering Start to the Week
Brisbane, get ready for a hot and humid Monday. Temperatures are expected to reach 30C, with an apparent temperature of 30.4C already felt at 7:30 am. And if you thought the morning was bad, wait until the afternoon when thunderstorms are likely to roll in.
The Week Ahead: Heatwave Conditions to Continue
The heatwave warning remains in place until Wednesday, with temperatures set to stay in the 30s for most of the state. Here’s what you can expect for the rest of the week:
- Tuesday: Brisbane will reach a top of 30C, with temperatures dipping slightly to 29C on Wednesday before soaring again to 32C on Thursday and 31C on Friday.
- Central Queensland: This region will bear the brunt of the heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 43C in Longreach.
Thunderstorms on the Horizon
The thunderstorm risk is building, with southern Queensland and areas near the NSW border expected to be hit the hardest. Sky News Meteorologist Rob Sharpe warns that some storms could be severe, with at least 25mm to 50mm of rain expected for much of the state.

- Sunshine Coast: 30C with showers

Heatwave Warning: Areas Affected
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe heatwave warning for several regions, including:
- Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
- Central Coast and Whitsundays
- Capricornia
- Central Highlands and Coalfields
- Central West and North West Districts
Residents in these areas, including Barcaldine, Hughenden, Longreach, Winton, and Woorabinda, can expect maximum temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s, with overnight temperatures ranging from the mid to high 20s.
