Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flooding Expected on Wednesday Afternoon
If you’re in southeast Queensland, you need to know about the severe thunderstorm warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for Wednesday afternoon.
We’re talking heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and potentially life-threatening conditions in some areas.
Which Areas are Affected?
The warning applies to residents in parts of Brisbane City, Somerset, South Burnett, Moreton Bay, Western Downs, and Toowoomba. If you live in these areas, make sure you’re prepared and stay safe.

The Storm is Already Showing its Fury
A heavy thunderstorm was detected near Albany Creek and Lake Samsonvale around 3:30 pm, with intense rainfall likely to cause flash flooding. And that’s not all – another severe thunderstorm was spotted southwest of Kingaroy, which could also bring heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
Rainfall Records are Being Broken
In just one hour, Moodlu recorded 67mm of rain around 1 pm, while Toowoomba saw 56mm of rainfall around 2 pm. These are not minor storms, folks!
What You Need to Do to Stay Safe
If you’re in the affected areas, here’s what you should do:
- Go inside a strong building and wait for the storm to pass
- Park your car away from trees to avoid damage or injury
- Make sure your mobile phone and power banks are fully charged in case you lose power
