A shocking incident has occurred at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance, leaving two people seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
The Incident
Just before 1:30 pm on Wednesday, a tree branch fell while three people – two men and one woman, all from Sydney – were walking down the steps towards St Kilda Road.
According to Victoria Police, the area has been cordoned off, and an arborist is assessing the tree.
Casualties and Injuries
One of the men, 56, escaped with just a few scratches, while a 57-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries to her upper body. The second man, 21, suffered injuries to his lower body. Paramedics treated them at the scene, and they were taken to The Alfred Hospital.
Update on their Conditions
The woman remains in a serious condition, while the man is stable. Fortunately, the third patient didn’t require emergency treatment or transport.
New Year’s Eve Celebrations Unaffected
Despite the incident, the nearby New Year’s Eve Celebration Zone is unaffected, and the remainder of the gardens will continue to be open this evening. The event is scheduled to kick off at 6 pm with live music, food trucks, and performances.
