A devastating accident occurred on the North West Coast Highway in the Gascoyne region, leaving a 38-year-old truck driver dead.
The incident happened around 11:40 am on Tuesday when the driver’s red and white Kenworth truck, carrying four trailers of gravel and sand, veered off the road, rolled over, and burst into flames.
What Happened
According to police, the truck was traveling northbound on the highway, approximately 45 kilometers north of Minilya Roadhouse, when it suddenly left the carriageway.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, tragically lost his life at the scene.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services promptly responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze.
Road Closure and Investigation
The North West Coastal Highway between Minilya-Exmouth Road and Burkett Road was temporarily closed due to the accident, with both DFES and WA Police in attendance.
Fortunately, both roads have since reopened.
Major Crash investigators are currently examining the scene and urging any witnesses to come forward.
