A dramatic police chase unfolded on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, with four boys allegedly stealing a Land Rover Discovery and leading authorities on a wild pursuit.
The incident has left many in the community shocked and concerned about the brazen actions of the teenagers involved.
The Chase Begins
It all started around 4:30 pm on Sunday when police received a report of a stolen Land Rover travelling north on the Bruce Highway in the Caboolture area, about a 45-minute drive from Brisbane.
The police quickly sprang into action, with Sunshine Coast police and Polair tracking the vehicle onto the Sunshine Motorway.
The Getaway Attempt
As the chase continued, three of the boys – aged 12, 15, and 16 – abandoned the vehicle in Noosaville and attempted to flee on foot.
However, they were quickly caught by police on Lionel Donovan Drive. The alleged driver, a 17-year-old boy from Margate, continued to drive south on the Bruce Highway, with police hot on his heels.
The Chase Comes to an End
The pursuit finally came to an end in Forest Glen when police deployed a tyre deflation device, forcing the vehicle to slow down.
The 17-year-old boy then attempted to flee on foot, but police were right behind him and arrested him on the spot around 6 pm.
The Consequences
The 17-year-old boy has been charged with multiple offenses, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, and driving without a license.
He has been refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
The other three boys have been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
The Stolen Vehicle
The Land Rover was allegedly stolen from a driveway in Noosa Heads in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident has raised concerns about vehicle security and the need for owners to take extra precautions to protect their property.
