An Australian man, Mohamed Rifai, 27, has been detained in Bali after a shocking all-in brawl outside a popular beach club.
Rifai, from Sydney, was paraded in front of officials and media in Denpasar on Thursday, wearing a prison orange jumpsuit and with his hands ziptied.
What Happened?
The incident occurred at Finns Beach Club in Canggu, where Rifai and his group got into a heated argument with security guards.
According to reports, one of Rifai’s friends, John Ebid, bumped into a woman, which led to a heated argument with another man. The group was then kicked out of the club.
The Violent Brawl
Confronting footage shared on social media shows shirtless foreigners fighting with security guards outside the club, using blocks of wood as weapons. The video is shocking and has sparked outrage.
The Consequences
Rifai faces up to five years in jail if found guilty, according to reports.
He was the only one of five Australian tourists to be reported, but Ebid has filed his own report against the bouncers, alleging he was choked, punched, and stepped on.
The Security Guards’ Side of the Story
The security guards, who were also detained, could face 5.5 years imprisonment if convicted.
They claim that the fight was outside their operational zone, which is why they’re facing such severe charges.
Rifai’s Family Speaks Out
Rifai’s mother has come to his defense, claiming that her son and his friends were fighting in self-defense.
She said that the security guards started the fight and that her son was just trying to get out of the situation.
The Investigation Continues
The incident is still under investigation, and it’s unclear what will happen to Rifai and the security guards. One thing is for sure, though – this brawl has sparked a lot of controversy and outrage.
