Tragedy Strikes on Notorious Mountain Road: Motorcyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash that Left Six Others Injured
- A 52-year-old motorcyclist has died after a horror crash involving two cars on Tamborine Mountain Rd in Queensland’s Scenic Rim.
- Six people were injured in the collision, with five initially in life-threatening conditions, and three rescue choppers were called to the scene.
- The crash has raised concerns about the safety of the notorious mountain road, which features narrow lanes, sharp bends, and steep sections.
The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old man, was travelling north on Tamborine Mountain Rd when his grey BMW motorcycle collided with a white 2005 Subaru Liberty travelling south, and a grey Nissan X-Trail also travelling north.
The rider suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he later died.
Initial investigations suggest that the Subaru Liberty, carrying three men in their 20s, collided with the motorcyclist and the Nissan X-Trail, which was carrying a 72-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman.
The driver of the Subaru, a 25-year-old man, was transported to hospital with serious injuries, while two male passengers, aged 22 and 25, were also airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The 72-year-old man and 70-year-old woman travelling in the Nissan X-Trail were taken to hospital with serious injuries. A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokesperson said that a man in his 70s was trapped in a vehicle before being freed.
Three men in their 20s who were travelling in the Subaru were also injured, with one initially trapped and suffering facial injuries before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Tamborine Mountain Rd was closed in both directions for much of the day but reopened late on Sunday afternoon. The road is notorious for its narrow lanes, sharp bends, and steep sections, and has been the site of numerous crashes over the years.
