A wild night in the Hunter Valley took a devastating turn when a driver lost control of their car while performing a burnout in front of a crowd near Cessnock.
The out-of-control vehicle crashed into parked cars before slamming into a group of onlookers, leaving six people injured.
What Happened?
The incident occurred on Bromage Road, Abermain, around 12:05 am on Sunday. Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving calls about the crash.
Police discovered that a 2003 blue Subaru Liberty AWD sedan had hit two parked vehicles – a white LDV and a champagne-colored Mazda 6 – before striking a group of bystanders.
Injuries and Aftermath
The 18-year-old male driver is currently being treated for facial injuries and is under police guard in the hospital. Unfortunately, several others were also injured in the incident:
An 8-year-old girl is hospitalized with suspected internal injuries.
A 10-year-old girl was treated for minor injuries and has been released.
Two women, aged 25 and 31, remain in the hospital; the 31-year-old is being treated for a head injury.
Two men, aged 24 and 25, were taken to the hospital; the 24-year-old has a fractured leg, while the 25-year-old was treated for a foot injury and released.
Investigation Underway
A crime scene was set up, and the Crash Investigations Unit has launched an investigation into the incident.
