A popular magpie that was seized in Queensland may soon be reunited with its owners.
The bird, which became known as Molly the magpie, was rescued by a couple from Gold Coast after it fell from its nest in 2020.
The couple posted a picture of Molly and their English Staffy, Peggy, on their Instagram account, and it immediately became a hit.
The magpie has never been kept inside and has developed a close relationship with the dog.
After three years of being together, the couple received the devastating news that Molly would be surrendered to the authorities on March 1.
According to DESI, the bird was taken due to allegations that it was being kept illegally. However, on Friday, the couple revealed that the agency had agreed to meet with them to resolve the issue.
In a post on their Instagram page, the couple revealed that they had received an update regarding the situation. They said that the department was working on getting the necessary legal frameworks in place to allow them to bring Molly back. They also thanked their followers for their support. The couple noted that they were confident that they could successfully bring Molly back.
This update comes after the bird’s owners received an unexpected call from a representative of DESI. The agency assured them that Molly was in good spirits and was safe. The couple, who were understandably relieved, noted that they were told that the bird was in good health.
According to the couple, DESI was also considering various options to allow them to bring the bird back. One of these involves training them as wildlife carers. Mr Mortensen said on Wednesday that they had carried out extensive research into caring for the birds.
He also said that they were unsure what kind of training would be required to rehabilitate the bird. Since he had been through the required training for wildlife rehabilitation, he was not sure what would be required. The couple had been going through the legal process in order to determine what steps they could take to bring the bird home.
In their post, the couple urged their followers to continue with their efforts and stay positive. DESI, in an effort to ensure the welfare of Molly, has been in touch with the couple and informed them that the bird is being well taken care of. A spokesperson for the agency said that the options for the bird’s future care would be explored.
The DESI spokesperson said that the agency’s priority was the bird’s ongoing welfare. It was being taken care of properly and was undergoing rehabilitation.
