Two popular peanut butter products from Coles have been urgently pulled from shelves across Australia after a dangerous toxin was discovered in certain batches.
⚠️ What’s Going On?
If you’ve picked up Coles Smooth or Crunchy Peanut Butter 1kg recently, you might want to stop and double-check your purchase.
Both of these products—sold in Coles supermarkets and online nationwide between May 1 and June 30—are being recalled due to a contamination scare.
What’s the Problem?
Health authorities found traces of aflatoxins in the affected jars. These are toxic substances that come from moulds and can make you sick if consumed.
They’re naturally occurring, but still pretty dangerous.
NSW Food Authority confirmed the recall, saying the issue is serious enough for shoppers to avoid eating the peanut butter altogether.
️ Is Yours Affected?
If your jar has a best before date of February 5, 2027, it’s part of the recall. Whether you bought it at your local Coles or through Coles Online, you’re eligible for a refund.
✔️ What You Should Do
- Don’t eat the peanut butter if it’s from the affected batch.
- If you already consumed it and feel unwell, talk to your doctor.
- Bring the product back to any Coles store for a full refund.
- If you ordered through Coles Online, call their Customer Care team on 1800 455 400 for a refund or store credit.
Coles Says Sorry
Coles issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience and urged customers to check their peanut butter jars ASAP.
“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience,” the retailer said.
Stay safe and double-check that peanut butter before your next sandwich!
