A devastating incident has shaken the community of Chatsworth Park, north of Gympie, Queensland, where a 7-month-old baby boy tragically drowned in a lake on Saturday.
Emergency services were alerted around 10:40 am after the baby’s mother raised the alarm, and the infant was found unresponsive in the water.
The mother had pulled her child from the lake, and multiple people at the scene performed CPR before emergency services arrived.
Despite their efforts, the baby was rushed to Gympie Hospital in a life-threatening condition but sadly passed away.
Investigation Underway
Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death are still unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
“We’re treating it as unexplained, that’s probably the best term I can use at this point in time,” Inspector Mansfield stated.
Chatsworth Park is a popular rest stop and campsite for highway travelers, and some people stay there permanently, while others are just passing through.
Inspector Mansfield said the police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area, particularly between 9 am and 11 am on Saturday, including drivers who may have just been passing through.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police to assist with the ongoing investigation.
