In a shocking development, a husband and five men have been charged with a string of heinous sex offences against the husband’s ex-wife over a 13-year period. Philip Young, 49, is accused of 56 offences, including multiple counts of rape, possession of indecent images of children, and voyeurism.
Young, a former councillor and chief operating officer, is also charged with administering a substance to stupefy his victim and possessing extreme images. The alleged offences took place between 2010 and 2023, leaving his ex-wife Joanne, 48, to suffer in silence for over a decade.
But Joanne has bravely waived her right to anonymity, with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirming her decision. Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith, of Wiltshire Police, praised Joanne’s courage, saying: “She has been supported by specially trained officers from the beginning of the process and she has made the decision following multiple discussions with officers and support services.”
Five other men have also been charged with sex offences against Joanne. Norman Macksoni, 47, is charged with one count of rape and possession of extreme images, while Dean Hamilton, 46, is accused of one count of rape and sexual assault by penetration. Conner Sanderson Doyle, 31, Richard Wilkins, 61, and Mohammed Hassan, 37, are also facing charges related to sexual assault and touching.
All six men have been released on bail and appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court earlier this week. The investigation is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Superintendent Smith added: “This is a significant update in what is a complex and extensive investigation. We will continue to support Joanne and work tirelessly to bring these perpetrators to justice.”
