The small town of Harrietville in Victoria’s north-east is gripped with worry as a massive search operation is underway for 85-year-old Jacobus ‘John’, who vanished after leaving the local pub on Sunday night.
The elderly man, who is described as vulnerable due to his age and mobility issues, was last seen driving his silver Toyota Prado, which was spotted heading towards Mitta Mitta.
According to police, John had been at the Harrietville Hotel with his wife, following their regular routine where she walks the 500 metres south along the Great Alpine Road to home while he drives.
However, when his wife arrived home, John and the car were nowhere to be found.
The car was later filmed travelling east along the Great Alpine Road at Mother Johnson at 9:06pm, then through Omeo at 9:45pm, leading police to believe John may be heading towards Mitta Mitta.
As the search continues, police have released an image of John, who is described as Caucasian, slim, and about 170 centimetres tall. He walks hunched and uses a walking stick, and is unable to walk long distances.
He was last seen wearing a checked shirt, a vest, and pants, and may have been wearing a hat. His Toyota Prado has a front nudge bar and two spotlights.
